KABUL – The Taliban captured a trio of terrorists behind a deadly Sunday mosque explosion in Kabul – and wiped out an ISIS-K cell in a “decisive” raid, its leaders said Monday morning.

The Islamic militant group in power in Afghanistan arrested three terrorists who were behind the bomb on a road outside the Eid Gah mosque in the capital, spokesman Bilal Karimi said.

The explosion left two dead and three injured, Karimi said, although other information suggests all five people died.

“As a result of this operation, which was very decisive and successful, the ISIS center was completely destroyed and all ISIS operatives there were killed,” he said. he declared, without specifying the exact number of deaths.

The group gave no further details about the raid in Kabul’s northern neighborhood of Khair Khana, including whether Taliban soldiers were injured or killed in the operation.

Local media reported heavy clashes in the area and residents said they heard explosions and gunshots overnight.

The mosque explosion earlier on Sunday came as Taliban officials gathered to mourn the death of Mujahid’s mother. The group insisted that those killed or injured were civilians.

Although no group claimed responsibility for the bomb, suspicion quickly fell on the local ISIS affiliate, which stepped up attacks on its enemy Taliban, including the suicide bombing attack that killed 13 American soldiers as well as 169 Afghans.
