Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe on Sunday repeated his argument that the critical breed theory was a “dog whistle” and said it was a “fabricated” plan of his Republican opponent to “divide the people”.
McAuliffe made the comments during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” in response to a question about how he would respond to a former supporter who now supports Glenn Youngkin, his Republican opponent, at the subject of public schools “pushing for a radical program in which American history is portrayed as racist.”
“It’s an invention – it’s a plan by Trump, Betsy DeVos and Glenn Youngkin to divide people,” McAuliffe said. “It really bothers me. I try to unite people.”
“I really hate to see what Glenn Youngkin is trying to do to Virginia what Donald Trump has done to our country,” McAuliffe added. “I really hate to see the division, the hate. We put these kids in this horrible position. Let’s be clear. We’re not teaching critical race theory.”

This is not the first time that McAuliffe has attempted to dismiss the critical concerns of racial theory. Earlier this summer, Fox News reported that McAuliffe said during a campaign event that Critical Race Theory was a “right-wing conspiracy.”
“This is another right-wing plot,” he said. “It’s totally invented by Donald Trump and Glenn Youngkin. That’s what they are. It’s a conspiracy theory.”
As recently as last week, McAuliffe was grilled on critical breed theory at a panel discussion with WAVY News, where he claimed, “It was never taught in Virginia.”
“It’s not taught in Virginia and it was never taught in Virginia,” McAuliffe said. “And like I’ve said many times, it’s a dog whistle. It’s racial, it’s divisive and it’s used by Glenn Youngkin and others, it’s the same with Trump and the border wall, to divide people. We shouldn’t divide people at school. “

When asked how McAuliffe would define critical race theory, he dismissed the question and said, “It doesn’t matter.”
“It doesn’t matter,” McAuliffe said. “It’s not taught here in Virginia so I’m not going to spend my time – I’m not even spending my time because the school board and everyone came out and said it wasn’t taught. C ‘is racist. It’s a dog whistle. “
