Tesla CEO Elon Musk says nice words to CEO of automaker

Tesla chief executive Elon Musk backed Volkswagen chairman and CEO Herbert Diess on Tuesday, despite the legal problems of the German automaker over its high-profile scandal, Dieselgate.

Despite the EPA's allegations about the German manufacturer, Musk supported Diess in response to an article written by BloombergChris Bryant, who said the VW leader should win an award for "Worst Sense of Timing". It comes just weeks after the Tesla CEO guided Volkswagen for cheating on emissions control.

"Herbert Diess is doing more than any major automaker to switch to electricity. The good of the world should come first. For what it's worth, he has my support, "said Musk on Twitter.

The scandal erupted in September 2015 when the US EPA found that the German automaker was using "cheat devices" in his cars in order to pass the emissions tests. The company had knowingly programmed its turbocharged direct injection diesel (TDI) vehicles to use emission controls only during laboratory testing, in violation of the EPA Clean Air Act. Volkswagen has paid nearly $ 33 billion in penalties since the scandal began.

News about Musk's support for Diess comes one day after Teslarati reported that Volkswagen would start development and production of its own lithium-ion battery cells for future electric vehicles. The company has already taken steps to launch the project since it has hired some 300 additional workers for the project and anticipates that this initiative will create 700 additional jobs.

The company anticipates that the new warehouse that will be located in Salzgitter, Germany, will be completed in 2023 or 2024. The 900-million-euro project ($ 991.72 million) is a common affair since Volkswagen has decided to collaborate with Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt. Volkswagen also plans to use its own recycling plant to make its batteries even greener.

Diess left his position at the German automaker BMW without being given the job of CEO and joined VW about two months before the scandal of Dieselgate. Diess is the Volkswagen team leader Massive $ 33 billion plan to start producing electric vehicles, while it announced the company's new battery-powered ID.3 on Sept. 9.

Unfortunately, this campaign may come to a sudden halt as Diess, along with other VW leaders, are currently facing charges of stock market manipulation. But it remains to be seen whether or not men will have their day in court.

Although Volkswagen has implicitly and deliberately placed environmentally damaging devices in its vehicles, Musk's kind words to Diess indicate that the company is taking the necessary steps to adopt a more sustainable mode of transportation. Volkswagen has invested its money where it stands by promising nearly one billion euros for the production of electric vehicle batteries.
