Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he tested both positive and negative for COVID-19 in a series of 4 tests yesterday.
The CEO, who has often made skeptical and inaccurate comments on the pandemic, took the opportunity to again cast doubts on the severity of the coronavirus pandemic.
Musk said he was experiencing symptoms of a “typical cold” and tested positive on a rapid BD COVID-19 antigen test.
He had 3 subsequent tests and said he tested both positive and negative:
“Something extremely wrong is happening. Has been tested for Covid four times today. Two tests came back negative, two came back positive. Same machine, same test, same nurse. BD rapid antigen test. “
In follow-up tweets, the CEO said these mixed results could explain the spike in cases and added that he was undergoing various tests:
In another tweet, Musk hinted that this was a way to generate more income from testing:
It is a story that has grown in recent months after being wrong about the disappearance of the pandemic.
In March, he claimed that trends showed there would be no new cases in the United States by the end of April:
At this point, it’s not clear whether the CEO is quarantining himself and whether other members of his team at Tesla or SpaceX have tested positive.
During the last week the CEO was in Germany and Sweden, a jurisdiction Musk recently hailed for its response to the pandemic even if its death toll is 20x neighbors of Norway and Finland.
Most recently, his plane was spotted in Austin, Texas, where Tesla is currently building a factory, Monday through Wednesday.
Then he went to Los Angeles and yesterday he landed in the Bay Area, where the Tesla Fremont factory and the Palo Alto headquarters are located.

First of all, I hope everyone is doing well and being careful about the situation. If Elon has COVID-19, hopefully it is a mild case and recovers quickly with no lasting side effects.
Having said that, he really needs to stop questioning the gravity of the situation.
There is nothing wrong with this situation. The FDA has warned of the possibility of false positives with antigen testing. This is not new information.
It is normal to have a PCR test (also known as a polymerase chain reaction test) if someone has tested positive for an antigen test.
While this affects the data, that in itself cannot explain the outbreak in the cases that many regions are seeing.
It is still a very real problem that kills many people and sends many more to the hospital, often leaving survivors with lasting symptoms.
I find it hard to believe that Elon can still be skeptical about this and feed conspiracy theorists into considering this to be a global problem. Are all countries concerned?
Overflowing intensive care units in places like Saskatchewan and Oklahoma, is it the result of false tests?
I think the people who don’t take him seriously and the prominent and influential people who cast doubts like Elon has been doing from the start is a big deal that helps spread and as a big fan of his work, i am sad to see it.
