Tesla is a company that does things his own way. It doesn’t have a traditional franchise dealer network, for example, and you can even pay for your car in Bitcoin. Unfortunately, according to a report released on Monday by CNBC, doing things differently from Tesla can sometimes lead to big problems, and this is the case for several Tesla buyers in Southern California.
The problem stems specifically from Tesla move to accept bitcoin as well as bank transfers and automated clearing house or ACH transfers. Several buyers who have chosen to outright pay for their cars using Tesla’s new ACH service have found themselves billed twice for their vehicle.
By this we mean they were billed once for the balance owed on their brand new Tesla and then without notice or authorization they were billed the same amount a second time. Worst of all, they claim Tesla didn’t make the refund process easy or transparent.
In most cases, buyers affected by this double burden have several options. First, they can call their bank and ask the bank to waive the charge, but it can take over a month and force the bank and Tesla to sort things out. According to the CNBC article, the preferred method would be for the customer to interact directly with Tesla and force Tesla to return the money, but that hasn’t happened either.
Like Clark Peterson, a resident of the Los Angeles area, some customers have been promised refunds over the phone but have not received any written confirmation of this, despite asking explicitly, and as of Monday. afternoon, they had not received a refund of any kind.
We would ask Tesla for a comment on this, but since he no longer has a PR department, we’re going to record our questions on a VHS tape and leave it in an abandoned booth for a group of teenagers to find and shares them with their peers.
So what we want to know is what you would do in this situation? Would you blame the brand for the mistake and no longer do business with them, or would you view the situation as separate from your experience with the car you bought? Let us know (respectfully) in the comments.
