We will continue to hire more service technicians and develop this area. "

It is not known how many employees have been affected by this "restructuring" at this stage.

A source told Electrek that Tesla was preventing customers from calling local service centers directly and urging them to book all services directly online or through the Tesla mobile app, launched last year by Tesla.

The automaker launched a new service status update feature live via its mobile application earlier this year.

Both initiatives are aimed at reducing the workload of the service centers and could explain the dismissal of employees.

Recently, Tesla made several statements about the extension of service after CEO Elon Musk admitted a "crazy oversight" of Tesla's service coverage.

Musk specifically said at the Tesla shareholders meeting earlier this week:

It may be too early for Tesla to start releasing employees on duty in my opinion.

Although I understand that they think they have found other alternatives to replace their roles, I understand that these employees had several responsibilities in the service and that they were already overworked.

I find it hard to believe that their absence will have a positive impact on service capacity.

However, Tesla seems to remain committed to hiring more technicians, which seems to be the most needed to improve Tesla's service capacity at the moment.
