Tesla filming a self-driving demo ahead of Autonomy / A Tesla Network Event

Tesla has apparently been seen filming a stand-alone demonstration in a model 3 in anticipation of its "Investor Autonomy" event scheduled for next week, during which the automaker is expected to release more details about "Tesla Network," its network of autonomous relay.

Earlier this month, Tesla announced an investor empowerment event on April 19:

The automaker described the event:

"Investors will be able to test test our Autopilot software, including features and features currently under development. Investors will also be in direct contact with Elon Musk, as well as with Vice President of Engineering, Stuart Bowers, Vice President of Material Engineering, Pete Bannon and Senior Director of artificial intelligence, Andrej Karpathy. "

Later, the company postponed the event to April 22nd and CEO Elon Musk said it would include more details about 'Tesla Network'.

The event should also include a broadcast presentation and we are now learning that Tesla is filming what appears to be an autonomous demonstration.

A seemingly stand-alone model 3 with filming equipment was spotted earlier this week (via skabooshka on Twitter):

According to Skabooshka, a known Tesla detractor on Twitter, the Model 3 traveled "about 35 miles from 13:00 to 13:40" on Tuesday.

He traveled on I-880N between Fremont and the Francisco Bay Bridge:

In 2016, Tesla also filmed a self-driving demonstration at the announcement of its Autopilot 2.0 hardware suite.

Until then, the Tesla autopilot was focused on highway driving, but the demonstration of autonomous driving focused on driving in the city and on the road.

Electrek's Take

It should be a very interesting event, but I would take it all with a grain of salt.

Very few of the capabilities demonstrated by Tesla in 2016 were still available to customers' vehicles.

Tesla used the demo several times before choosing the video. Although this was an interesting look at the potential future capabilities of the Tesla autopilot, it was not really representative of any feature that offered consumers the maximum amount of time.

I would not be surprised if it ended up being a similar situation with this demonstration.

However, we should learn more about the capabilities of the new Full Self-Driving computer and Tesla's plans for the Tesla network, which would be expected developments.
