  • Tesla has transformed its Gigafactory in Berlin into a festival site for its regional fair “Giga-Fest”.
  • Videos on Twitter show the festival set up with rave music, a ferris wheel and arcade stalls.
  • The Giga-Fest starts at 10 a.m. and the DJs will “keep the party going” after 7 p.m., according to the Tesla website.

Tesla has turned its Gigafactory in Berlin into a festival site for a county fair called “Giga-Fest”, which takes place on Saturday, Reuters first reported.

Videos job Twitter showed huge on-site stages with flashing lights, speakers playing electronic music and devices that set off small lightning bolts as the automaker prepared for the day-long festival.

A video released on Saturday showed that Tesla had also installed a Ferris wheel, carousel and arcade stands at the factory site. Food trucks featuring local food will be available at the festival, according to Tesla’s Giga-Fest website.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk first announced plans for the County Fair in August, and noted in September that he planned to attend.

Giga-Fest ticket holders can also tour the battery and electric vehicle factory on the same day. Musk said Tesla will prioritize residents of Brandenburg and Berlin for the tour, but the general public will also be able to visit it.

The county fair is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and end at 7 p.m. on Saturday, but bands and DJs will “keep the party going,” according to the website.

Online registration for the show closed on September 30, the website said. Space is limited and “if we are at full capacity we will give priority to visitors with a postcode in Berlin or Brandenburg,” he added.

About 9,000 people are expected to attend Tesla’s Giga-Fest on Saturday.

Although the limit for large gatherings is 5,000 due to COVID-19 restrictions, Tesla has applied for and been granted permission to host 9,000 people at Giga-Fest, Reuters reported Thursday.

Visitors must show proof of vaccination, recovery from COVID-19, or a negative PCR test within the past 48 hours, per rules listed on Tesla’s Giga-Fest website.

Tesla had previously announced its intention to start production at its Gigafactory in Berlin towards the end of 2021.

But the decision to build the Gigafactory did not come without criticism. Local environmental groups have argued that the site could threaten the region’s drinking water. Meanwhile, a German court ruled that deforestation would endanger the local sand lizard population.
