Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Zeljko Popovic, autopilot perception manager, is leaving the company for Embark, an autonomous trucking company.
Popovic managed the development of highly accurate US road maps for Tesla and created a "sensor fusion system" that combines data from multiple cameras, radars and ultrasonic sensors to "see" other cars on the road.
The departure comes at a critical time for Tesla, who has promised that his electric vehicles would be able to function as a "robotaxie" by the end of next year and would require no human intervention.
