Tesla Model 3 Performance takes up the challenge of Porsche's 0-90-0 mph aircraft carriers

A few days before the official Porsche Taycan unveiling ceremony, the German automaker launched a video demonstrating the impressive speed capabilities of the all-electric new sports car on a very special "circuit" for the occasion. The US aircraft carrier USS Hornet was the host of a test of acceleration and braking at 0-90-0 mph, which scored 10.7 seconds for Taycan's total run ( although the video description indicates 10.17 seconds). As could be expected from the community of Tesla owners, this feat was then challenged in a similar scenario using a model 3 performance, but with less impressive landscapes.

The Model 3 performance test was undertaken and published by Erik, owner and fan of Tesla, of the YouTube channel. DÆrikand the results were impressive although they were a bit slower than the Taycan test. For the 0 to 90 mph portion, Model 3 was recorded in 6.87 seconds; however, braking only began when the car reached 96.9 mph in 7.90 seconds. From 90 mph to 0 mph, 4.01 seconds elapse. The overall race took 12.4 seconds, although the numbers are not ideal due to the delay in braking. Removing overtime from 90-96.9 mph, while recognizing that it is an imperfect method for time testing, brings to 10.88 seconds the total time allocated to the Tesla for the race 0-90-0. Some additional comparisons would have been useful for the comparison, but these results alone – a mid-size sedan of $ 56,000 versus a $ 150,000 sports car – bode well for the entire model.

In addition to the absence of aircraft carriers (and perhaps its surface), there was at least one notable difference between the two tests. Specifically, Model 3 was a production version of the vehicle with few modifications, such as ceramic brakes. The Taycan used on the USS Hornet was a prototype of the vehicle. Therefore, it is not clear what differences existed compared to the other three variants of Porsche's new electric sports car.

The Taycan Porsche was only recently unveiled, but comparisons between the brand's entry into the world of all-electric vehicles (EV) and existing Tesla production vehicles are already numerous and ubiquitous. With Tesla's predominance in the battery range and the impressive performance of all models on offer, Taycan's high price seems to be one of the most important factors in negative reviews. After all, every variant of Model 3 is in a much more affordable price range than all Taycan variants. As the positive reviews show, Porsche's goals for their vehicles have always been and will be miles away from Tesla's mission. Tesla aims to make electric cars accessible worldwide to almost all types of consumers, while Porsche is, finally, Porsche.

CEO Elon Musk, who does not fear the challenge, recently said Tesla would face Taycan in a more formal way. A recently released video from the Taycan race on the Nürburgring track in West Germany shows that the performance car reaches a record of 7 minutes and 42 seconds and the Model S will now challenge those numbers. "The S model on the Nürburgring next week," Musk teased on Twitter. A test conducted in 2014 by an independent S model pilot on the same runway was hampered by power limitations and overheating; Tesla has since updated the power management software. The record may be corrected next week with the approval of the results by Musk and Tesla.
