Earlier this week, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) published video from inside its new battery cell manufacturing plant that the company talked about on its battery and investor day. The video showed many impressive machines making hundreds or thousands of battery cells, the current limiting factor in Tesla’s supply chain.

As Teslarati explained, it turns out the video may contain some interesting details. While Tesla is working on making its own battery cells, it still buys from partners and drives down battery prices.
The video shows that Tesla’s battery plant is highly automated. CEO Elon Musk has spoken in the past of a fully automated factory to build the Model 3, requiring little to no human interaction. This dream failed when Musk realized that humans were very important. But this battery factory seems to come close to Musk’s initial vision.
Tesla’s 4680 battery was recently leaked, and these are the cells that will go into this pack. It appears that the battery cells are created, sorted and stored in clean rooms, all of these processes being automated. Compared to typical battery factories, there are far fewer human workers to be seen in Tesla’s video. These advancements could help lower prices for batteries and vehicles while relieving some of Tesla’s supply constraints.
