Tesla China is leading the way in sustainable transportation with one success after another. This time the news is that Tesla China has taken the cake with the world’s largest supercharger station, having opened the station just before the end of 2020. Jay in Shanghai shared the news on Twitter. In his thread, Jay shared a few photos of the booster station, which looks like a dedicated parking lot just for charging Tesla vehicles.

The world’s largest Tesla supercharger station is located in downtown Shanghai. In June of last year, we reported that Tesla had embarked on a mission to expand its network of superchargers in China. According to a report by Global Times, Tesla had plans to install 4,000 new Superchargers in China before the end of 2020. And with the news and tweets from Jay, it looks like Tesla is keeping that promise. We don’t know the exact number added yet, but several major stations have been added recently, and certainly many more normal Supercharger stations.

Tesla China Supercharger Timelapse 2014β2020
Timelapses are one of the best ways to watch progress blossom and flourish. Jay shared one on Twitter that shows Tesla China’s first Supercharger in Shanghai in 2014 and continues to the world’s largest supercharger station which just went live just before the end of 2020.

In China, Tesla has made incredible progress. Jay pointed out that these advancements included improved charging experiences this year. I write since CleanTechnica for over a year, and looking at the progress I’ve made from the outside to the inside, I can see that it goes way beyond the growth of charging stations. I have long predicted that China would love Tesla’s brand and that Tesla would thrive in that market. We’re starting to really see this.
I just reported that the Chinese-made Model Y is now shipping to China, and new Tesla sales estimates show Tesla’s total sales in China are nearing 150,000, trailing only the ~ 205,000 in the United States. Plus, it’s actually the world’s largest market for Model 3 sales, with what appears to be over 50,000 more Model 3 sales than in the United States.
