Tesla has issued recall orders for 9,537 of its vehicles in the United States, including 9136 Model X from 2016 and 401 Model Y from 2020, Reuters reports. The issues have been filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Tesla intends to recall the vehicles for testing and corrections.

The larger of the two orders is for 9,136 X models from the 2016 model year. The NHTSA report states that the cars have cosmetic appliques that may have been applied without primer, which could cause the trim to fall off the roof. the car when driving at high speed. Tesla says it will apply a retention test to potentially affected cars and reapply primers and adhesives to get the trim set properly.

This isn’t the first time that roof accessories have given Tesla a headache. In a recent incident, a Model Y lost its entire roof due to an improperly applied gasket, although the failure does not appear to have been related to the issues that triggered today’s recalls.

A second, smaller recall has been issued for the 2020 model year 401 Y vehicles, which may have loose bolts in the front upper control arm that connects to the car’s steering knuckles. Without the bolts properly tightened, the arm could detach from the steering knuckles, affecting the driver’s ability to steer the car. It’s also not the first time that steering has been an issue for Tesla cars – the company has previously recalled 123,000 cars from its Model S line due to a power steering issue.

Tesla says in the NHTSA report that he is only aware of three vehicles affected by loose bolts, and overall he is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to either recall. . The recall is unlikely to have much of an impact on Tesla’s recent financial success, which saw the value of the company’s shares rise by more than $ 40 billion ahead of its scheduled listing on the S&P 500.

Tesla says it will test and repair affected vehicles free of charge if they are eligible for the recall. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
