Gigafactory Shanghai has reportedly set a target of producing 5,700 Model 3 units per week in November, which could be enough to help Tesla reach its 500,000 guided vehicles for this year. Tesla China could give the automaker the boost it needs to have an exceptional quarter and end the year on a high.
Tesla China celebrated 2020 by initiating Model 3 deliveries after completing the first phase of Gigafactory Shanghai, a year after its groundbreaking ceremony. It looks like the Tesla plant in China is planning to end the year as well. According to the drone operator Wu Wa, Giga Shanghai has updated its production target for November to 5,700 Model 3 per week, a slight increase from October. Wuwa last month reported that Giga Shanghai had set a target of producing 800 vehicles per day (5,600 per week – assuming the plant is operating at full capacity seven days a week).
With its October weekly production targets, Giga Shanghai was on track to manufacture 22,400 Model 3s for the month with a seven-day work week. However, Tesla China exceeded expectations and targets by producing 22,929 Model 3 vehicles in October, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). After a year of operations, it has become clear that Giga Shanghai can not only meet Tesla’s expectations, but will also work hard to exceed them.
At 5,700 units per week, Giga Shanghai has set itself a reasonable target of producing 22,800 models 3 by November. Given that it has already produced 22,900 in October, there is a good chance that the plant will meet its target. If it maintains its weekly target, Gigafactory Shanghai could contribute around 60,000 vehicles to Tesla’s numbers this fourth quarter. This is expected to play a key role in helping the company meet its 2020 delivery goals of 500,000 vehicles.
The pandemic halted Fremont Factory operations for weeks at the end of the first quarter and the start of the second quarter earlier this year. At the time, meeting his goals for 2020 seemed bleak for Tesla. Automaker EV didn’t announce any adjustments to its 500k forecast in its Q2 2020 earnings call, in fact Tesla didn’t mention everything.
Giga Shanghai has been instrumental in Tesla’s three consecutive successful quarters this year and may continue to contribute to the company’s fourth-quarter goals, particularly its forecast. In the latest earnings call, Tesla finally spoke up on his forecast and said he would always try to stick to them.
“We are also aiming to meet our initial target of 500,000 deliveries for 2020 despite operational disruptions at the start of the year. While this goal remains a real challenge, we believe it is possible with tight execution across the company, ”CFO Zachary Kirkhorn said during the third quarter earnings call.
