Today, Tesla unveiled its much-anticipated new update of the 2021 S and X Models.

But the most anticipated change is the interior design, which has received a complete refresh.

First impressions were mixed as some of the features turned out to be polirazing – nothing more than the new steering wheel.

Tesla introduces an all-new steering wheel in the new Model S and Model X.

In the new configurator, Tesla describes the new steering wheel, which does not have a controller:

Previously, Tesla used rods on its steering wheels like most other vehicles for turn signals, headlights, and wiper controls, and unlike other automakers, Tesla even used steering wheel rods for others. controls like autopilot and drive modes (PRND).

But in the end, Tesla hopes that all of these functions will be performed automatically by the vehicle.

This strategy is particularly illustrated by Tesla’s solution to replace the drive mode lever (PRND).

Electrek has obtained internal documents from Tesla which show the automaker is considering using Autopilot and AI to find out which drive mode to activate.

Tesla writes in the document:

“The vehicle uses its autopilot sensors to intelligently and automatically determine and select intended driving modes. For example, if the front of the Model S / X is facing a garage wall, it will detect this and automatically shift into reverse once the driver presses the brake pedal.
