Test the quality of your video streaming with the update of the Ookla Speedtest application

Ookla Speedtest, an app used to test metrics such as upload and download speeds, has updated its iOS app to allow users to test the quality of their internet streaming. Testing is free and currently only available with the iOS app, with more platforms to come.

In an announcement about the update, Ookla says the test works by playing a video to measure the quality of video streaming on your network, which gives a more accurate measurement than you would get by estimating streaming quality by depending on other measurements.

“While network speed certainly has an impact on your video experience, providers consistently prioritize video traffic differently from other types of traffic,” Ookla explains. “This means that video can perform very differently from the rest of the things you do online, regardless of your network download speed.”

“If your video test results show that you are often not able to broadcast properly, you can use your video test history to defend yourself when talking to your provider.”

You will find the new test in a tab at the bottom of the app. Tap the video icon to start testing the video streaming quality of your network.

IOS users can download the Speedtest by Ookla app from the App Store.
