Tetris 99, the popular game on Nintendo Switch Free, is expanding. A new paid download content, Big Block, is available today and adds several offline modes and more.

The $ 10 Big Block DLC adds the following modes:

  • CPU Battle – Allows you to play offline against 98 CPU opponents.
  • Marathon – Delete as many lines as you can.

These modes are playable offline, which is remarkable because the main experience of Tetris 99 is an online game only. It also means that you no longer need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play Tetris 99 (if you buy the $ 10 DLC).

Nintendo has also announced more details on the upcoming Max Cup online event for Tetris 99. The Maximus Cup 3 starts on May 17 and, just like the previous ones, you get points for the matches you play, regardless your ranking. Those who score 100 points or more will receive a new theme inspired by the original Game Boy. The event will run until May 19 at 23:59 Pacific Time.

Nintendo has announced that it will announce even more new modes for Tetris 99 at a later date.

Tetris 99 was very successful. Just this week, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa explained how the game "helped keep the Nintendo Switch engaged" and encouraged more people to sign up for Nintendo Switch Online. .
