Three Texans were heavily hit Monday by heavy fines after being seen driving dockless scooters on the shoulder of an interstate highway in Milwaukee, police said.
The three men were seen on surveillance cameras from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) driving the single scooters file on I-94's shoulder, reported Milwaukee's Fox 6.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said the men had tried to get off the highway, but the MPs had arrested them first.
Dockless scooters are named for their carpool service and their lack of a fixed address.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff's office said the men were traveling from Texas and using a GPS to take them to Harley Davidson-Museum in Milwaukee.

Inspector Daniel Hughes told a press conference on Tuesday that the results could be "catastrophic".
"They had to cross three lanes that were going 50 miles per hour, pretty much," Hughes said. "I believe that they were trying to make the best decision in the circumstances, but it was a bad decision in the first place."

Dock-free scooters, which are used for short-term rentals and do not have a fixed address, have been controversial as their proliferation goes beyond regulatory efforts to use them.
The trend of rapid growth has triggered alarms across the country, critics claiming that scooters clutter the sidewalks and endanger the lives of cyclists and other people.
