In an affidavit, crimes against children, detective C. West, said that Murry had changed her story from what had happened when she had been questioned by the police.

During one of her stories, she told the police that she had woken up to find Acelyn on the bed in her mother's room, while her son was standing over the girl holding a metal roulette. She said she noticed that the shape of the bruises on her daughter's forehead seemed to match that of a nervous spinner, reported the Star-Telegram.

An autopsy revealed that Acelyn had multiple fractures caused by repeated blows to the head. His death was tried as a homicide caused by a traumatic head injury.
