Houston Texans signed for safety Tashaun Gipson, the team said Tuesday.
The addition of Gipson comes after the departure of security, Tyrann Mathieu, who has agreed to sign a $ 42 million three-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The terms of the agreement reached between Gipson and the Texans have not been disclosed.
Gipson, 28, was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars on March 8 as part of the team's efforts to create a salary space. He started the 48 games since joining the team and had six interceptions and 16 interruptions.
He was still two years old for the five-year contract he had signed in March 2016, worth $ 36 million. He was to report $ 7.25 million in 2019.
In total, Gipson has 20 steals and 39 assists in seven seasons. He played four years in Cleveland after joining the Browns as a non-registered free agent in 2012.

Gipson competed in the 2014 Pro Bowl after intercepting six career passes and scoring one for a touchdown.
In his first season with the Jaguars, Gipson had only one interception and was not happy with his role. He criticized the defensive coordinator Todd Wash, saying that he felt he was wrongly used as a mere security, even though the Jaguars have signed it with the intention of doing so.
However, he and Wash met during the 2017 off season and blew air. Gipson played well in 2017, finishing with four interceptions and seven interruptions. Coach Doug Marrone expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that Gipson was not named to the Pro Bowl.
