Texans RB Lamar Miller Wounds Knee to Dallas

Lamar Miller did not play the first two pre-season games. He is a seven-year veteran.

However, the Houston Texans felt the need to give him a handful of passes in the third preseason game, which would make all the difference.

Miller suffered what appeared to be a serious knee injury during his first pre-season postponement. Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Maliek Collins hit Miller outside his knee, which bent. Miller groped and went down. He was transported to the cloakroom.

Texans probably do not think it was worth playing their Pro Bowl in the race for some pre-season shots.

Lamar Miller did the Pro Bowl

Miller made his first Pro Bowl last season. He had 973 yards and five touchdowns. The Texans seemed ready to use a 1-2 1-2 from Miller and Duke Johnson, whom they had just acquired in an exchange with Cleveland.

Maybe the injury is not as bad as it seemed. But it looked bad. If it's something that prevents Miller from spending a moment or the whole season, it's a big blow for Texans.

Johnson would likely assume the role of a rear-chief. There is not much behind him. But hey, at least the Texans had Miller with a pre-season carryover.

Teams take a different approach to preseason

The teams are rethinking the pre-season. Some teams, like the Los Angeles Rams and the Chicago Bears, play almost no key player in the pre-season. Because is there really a benefit to play in a few clicks? Does a veteran veteran really need a dozen photos to be ready for week 1? Probably not.

More and more teams will be present during the pre-season, finding other ways to be ready for the first week. The Texans would probably like it.
