The news that Texans wide receiver Will Fuller has been suspended for six games for violating the league’s PED policy has come as news to many. Apparently including the Texans.

A spokesperson for the Texans told PFT the team learned of Fuller’s suspension on Monday from Fuller’s agent.

If that’s true, that means they didn’t know when negotiating with other teams (mainly the Packers) regarding a potential trade until the deadline which arrived four weeks ago. It also means the Texans didn’t know this until they recently cut wide receiver Kenny Stills.

With Stills making up for waivers, Texans will likely pay the balance of his salary as severance pay, anyway. They could have kept it, if they had known there was a need at the station.

The Texans added that they are still awaiting official advice from the league. Fuller publicly disclosed the positive result and the suspension that followed Monday.

It is possible that Fuller recently received a positive test review and chose not to appeal the decision in order to serve five of the six games this year, reducing the number of games he is expected to play after the signing of his next contract. He’s currently in the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, and missing the next five games will cost him $ 2.98 million in salary.
