Texas advances bill that would penalize doctors for failing to provide care to babies born after abortion

The Texas House of Representatives has preliminarily approved a move that any doctor who does not care for a child born alive after an abortion will be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars and will be liable to prison sentence for gross negligence, according to a report.

The law entitled "Born Alive" was passed by 93 votes to one, mostly unanimously among parties, the Dallas Morning News reported and will now move to the state Senate.

Democrat Harold Dutton voted "no", while 50 other Democrats voted "present, not voting".
