Another day, another Texas state official was accused of trying to use self-denial for political gain.

State Representative Michelle Beckley, a Democrat, joined more than 50 of her colleagues earlier this month to flee Texas to deny quorum on GOP voting bills. She took to Twitter Tuesday night to appeal for support as she tried to topple a Texas Republican in the United States House of Representatives.

“I am one of the brave Democrats from Texas who came to Washington to fight for the franchise in my state. Now I am fighting to overthrow a seat held by an anti-democracy Republican. I have 28,500. . Can you help us get to 50,000 subscribers? ” she tweeted.

She followed the tweet with a link on how best to contribute to her campaign.

Beckley’s office did not immediately respond to an after-hours email from Fox News, but the tweet was criticized for reference to bravery.

Jason Rantz, the radio host, tweeted: “YOU. YOU CALLED. YOURSELF. COURAGEOUS.” Another commentator tweeted: “If you have to tell people that what you did was ‘courageous’, odds are it was not at all courageous.”

His tweet seemed to have some effect. Early Wednesday, his account apparently grew from 28,500 to 33,700 subscribers. She has also received tweets in support of her efforts.

The Texas issue is clearly divided between the parties. Their supporters compared them to suffragists and civil rights leaders, while their critics accused them of wielding a fair bill that they said makes “easier to vote and harder to cheat.”

But whatever your stance on invoices, many see their message sometimes overshadowed by preventable mistakes. A Democrat has been criticized for posting a photo of her dirty laundry in a hotel room, which has led to allegations of “bogus” sacrifice. (Lawmakers later apologized for distracting from the real issue.) There was also a photo that showed a group traveling with a crate of Miller Lite beer raising questions about their seriousness. A COVID-19 outbreak also emerged as a problem and even prompted Vice President Harris to be tested at Walter Reed.

Texas House Democrats have left the state in an attempt to break the quorum and stop votes on two election bills introduced by Republicans. Lawmakers hopped on a private flight to Washington where they planned to lobby for the protection of federal voters.

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott told Fox News on Tuesday that he plans to call a subsequent special session of the Texas state legislature as soon as absent lawmakers return from their trip.

Abbott told “America Reports” that the Texans acknowledged that the dozens of fugitive State House members were shying away from their taxpayer-funded work on their behalf and that the trip had been a “disaster.”

“Their constituents are very upset that the MP from their house is not in the [Capitol], doing the job they were elected to do, ”he said.

Beckley will challenge U.S. Representative Beth Van Duyne, a Republican from the state’s 24th Congressional District. The Texas Tribune reported that Van Duyne is one of two Lone Star State Republicans who are targeted for 2022.

Andrea Corker, Van Duyne’s campaign spokesperson, told Fox News in an email: “Beth remains focused on helping North Texans find new employment opportunities and take care of their lives. family while Democrats determine who is the biggest extremist in their main campaign. “
