A Texas teacher who attempted to report undocumented students in her school district to Donald Trump through a series of public tweets – which she thought were private messages to the president – was fired.
Fort Worth Independent School District vote unanimously 8-0 to end Georgia Clark's employment at a special meeting on Tuesday.
Clark, an English teacher at Carter-Riverside High School, tweeted that the school she was working in had been "taken over" by "illegal students from Mexico" and that Trump was elected "on the promise that a wall would be built to protect our borders "and tweeted several statements referring to" illegal. "
Tweets began to draw attention on social media last week and Clark's account was removed from May 29th. She was put on administrative leave after the school district became aware of these tweets.
Clark has already been investigated for similar comments, according to district registers obtained by NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
She was suspended in 2013 after supposedly calling a group of students from "Little Mexico" and another student of "white bread".
Clark is also currently under investigation for a complaint that she allegedly told a student of "Show me your papers … you are illegal," after the student asked permission to use the toilet.
According to district documents, Clark told an investigator that she thought the tweets were direct messages to President Trump and did not know that they were public.
The Hispanic student population in the Fort Worth Independent School District accounts for almost 63%. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that about 88% of the students in the school taught by Clark were Hispanic.
