HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) A Texas death row convict was executed on Wednesday night in Huntsville for stabbing an 89-year-old woman and her daughter more than 16 years ago after entering their home in Fort Worth on the pretext of working for them.

Billy Jack Crutsinger, 64, received a lethal injection Wednesday night at Huntsville State Penitentiary.

Crutsinger was sentenced for the murder of Pearl Magouirk and her 71 year old daughter Patricia Syren in 2003.

The authorities claim that Crutsinger killed the women and stole Syren's car and credit card.

He was arrested three days later at a bar in Galveston, more than 300 km away.

Prosecutors say that Crutsinger's actions were the result of "evil".

The US Supreme Court refused Wednesday night to suspend execution.

Crutsinger's lawyer urged the court to stop the execution, saying his previous lawyer had a long history of incompetence in the death penalty cases.

He was the 14th inmate sentenced to death this year in the United States and the fifth in Texas, the busiest state in terms of capital punishment.

Ten more executions are planned in Texas this year.
