Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill allowing children to operate lemonade kiosks without fear of being closed.
The law comes into effect in September and prohibits cities and neighborhood associations from enforcing rules that block or regulate children trying to sell non-alcoholic beverages such as lemonade on private property, according to the Texas Tribune .
Republican state representative Matt Krause introduced the bill after police closed a lemonade stand held by two girls trying to raise money for a Father's Day gift in 2015. The project had been passed unanimously in both chambers and Abbott had signed the bill on Monday.
"Here's a common sense law," Abbott said in signing the bill.
Abbott has signed several bills in recent days, including one to protect the freedom of expression on college campuses and another allowing beer and wine to be delivered to a person's residence. .
