Texas‘Republican Governor. Greg Abbott faces a list of Republican challengers in his re-election bid despite the coveted endorsement of former President Donald Trump.
Abbott, who has $ 55 million in his re-election war chest and holds a 73% approval rating among Republicans, still faces several prominent Republican enemies who question his Tory record linked to coronavirus restrictions, NBC News reported on Friday.

Former Florida Congressman Allen West joined former Texas State Senator Don Huffines, Conservative political commentator Chad Prather and criminal defense attorney Paul Belew in the race to defeat Abbott and brought Abbott’s initial response to the coronavirus at the forefront of debate.
The challengers hammered Abbott for shutting down businesses and being receptive to face mask mandates at the start of the pandemic and have not forgiven him even though he was one of the first governors to fully reopen a state.
“I mean, you can’t give back something that you really weren’t allowed to take,” West said.
Huffines agreed, saying, “It would be like thanking a thief for bringing back some of your stolen goods.”
ABBOTT PLANS TO PROCEED BIDEN IN JUSTICE: “HE IS A USUAL VIOLATOR OF THE AMERICAN CONSTITUTION”
“When you play arsonist and firefighter, the hypocrisy bleeds pretty quickly,” Prather said.
“The media gives him a lot of credit for using a lot of conservative rhetoric,” Prather added. “But there’s a difference between saying and doing. And, you know, Ron DeSantis does it. Kristi Noem does it. And Greg Abbott, a politician who lives off his polls, is good to say.”
Abbott’s allies seem indifferent to the various challengers vying for Abbott’s post.
“They have no money, they have no fundraising capacity,” John Wittman, former director of communications at Abbott, told NBC News. “They are all fighting for the same 10-12% of Republican primary voters.”

Dave Carney, Abbott’s political strategist, said the governor was “not at all worried” about his main opponents.
“We are really focused on the general election,” he added. “The primary is a great opportunity for us to do a dress rehearsal.”
Abbott gained approval from former President Donald Trump over the summer.
“Greg Abbott is a fighter and a great governor for the incredible people of Texas,” Trump said in a statement. “No governor has done more to secure the border and keep our communities safe than Governor Abbott. Greg is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and made Texas a Second Amendment sanctuary state. Texas has become a machine. to create jobs, and our partnership helped restore America’s economic strength and success. “
Abbott’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News.
