Texas gubernatorial candidate Allen West says he suffers from coronavirus-related pneumonia

Texas Republican candidate for governor Allen West announced on Saturday night that he was suffering from pneumonia linked to COVID-19 infection.

The former Florida representative and lieutenant colonel announced on Twitter that there were “concerns” about his oxygen saturation levels, which are at 89%.

“I want to thank you all for your prayers. Angela and I have just finished the monoclonal antibody infusion therapy and are in an observation period. There is a concern about my oxygen saturation levels, which are at 89. and they should be 95 “says West.

“My chest x-rays show COVID pneumonia, not serious. I will probably be admitted to the hospital,” he added.

The news comes after West, a critic of the current Texas government. West clarified at the end of a series of tweets that his wife, Angela, is vaccinated. However, West himself has yet to have the jab. According to Friday’s Twitter post, West said he was suffering from a mild fever and mild body aches.

He added that he was suspending his campaign events in person until he was allowed to return.

“Colonel West will be available by virtual means to organize events until his family’s medical condition is rectified. He is already taking hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin protocols,” the tweet read.

West said he believes getting the shot should be an individual choice.

The update to the candidate’s status marks a more serious escalation of a disease known to have dangerous effects on the lungs and cardiovascular system. Patients with more severe cases of COVID-19 have reported shortness of breath and low levels of oxygen saturation.

West is running in the Republican primary for governor in a bid to overthrow Abbott and has criticized the governor’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic as well as his stance on immigration on the Texas-Mexico border.

West announced in July that he would step down as President of the Texas Republican GOP to challenge Abbott in the 2022 primary race.
