A Texas high school football player tackled a referee after being escorted from a game Thursday night.

Emmanuel Duron, a senior defensive tackle at Edinburgh High School, was kicked out of a football game for a late kick and unsportsmanlike behavior against a Pharr-San Juan-Alamo high school player, NBC affiliate WOAI- reported TV.

In the video released by Rio Sports Live on Thursday, Duron can be seen running from the sideline and slamming the referee onto the turf.

The referee was assessed for concussion by medical staff while officers from the school district escorted Duron out of the stadium, according to the station.

Duron and Edinburg High School did not immediately respond to an NBC News request for comment.

Play resumed after a short delay and Edinburg took the win with a 35-21 victory, The Monitor reported.

Duron was the school district’s defensive player of the year last season, and the school team’s star kicker, punter and wrestler, the newspaper reported.

Edinburgh is a city of about 100,000 people just north of the US-Mexico border.
