A Texas man helped stop a suspected killer in a car theft after surviving a similar incident months ago.
Lewis Matos was sitting at his desk on May 26 when a car crashed into his apartment building, knocking him off his chair and pushing debris at him. Two people, Juan Mendez and Jaritza Chavarria, got out of the car and attempted to shoot Matos while his office pinned him to the ground.
Months later, he was in the same Uvalde neighborhood at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday when he saw a man trying to force a woman, Jessica Garza, out of his car, ABC 13 reported.
“I jumped in my car, I didn’t even think about it,” said Matos. “All I thought was ‘he’s not running away.'”

Marcus Wayne Brock, identified by police, drove off with the vehicle while dragging Garza across the ground for four or five blocks as her seat belt wedged her against the car. Matos followed for a while but couldn’t stop the incident until Garza died.
“I was mortified,” Matos said. “When I picked up that sign that was on top of his car and saw what he had done to her, I was enraged.”

Brock eventually crashed into a car wash before running off.
Matos continued to pursue Brock until he found him in Ralston Liquors and kept him there until the police arrived. Police believe Brock, 55, robbed an auto parts store before stealing Garza’s car in an attempt to get away quickly, KHOU reported.

Court records indicate that Brock is responsible for crimes dating back to 1985, with charges ranging from drug possession to burglary.
Matos explained that he was fed up with “watching everyone always walk away”.
