Texas state soldiers stopped a semi-truck on Monday and discovered it was crowded with more than 105 migrants smuggled into the United States.
The incident took place on US Route 59 near Laredo, a town in South Texas near the Mexican border and known to be a hotbed of human trafficking activity.
According to Fox News’ Bill Melugin, the driver, Michael Warren McCoy, was arrested for human trafficking and held in Webb County Jail.

Last week, CBP agents in the Laredo sector apprehended more than 100 undocumented migrants in two separate human smuggling attempts at the Highway 83 checkpoint northwest of Laredo.

Lt. Chris Olivarez of the Texas Department of Public Safety said smuggled migrants are the ones “who avoid apprehension.”
“They are being smuggled for a reason. So they avoid being apprehended because they fear deportation,” Olivarez said. “Additionally, you may have criminals who may be involved in these groups who are also trying to escape.”
According to CBP, around 1 million illegal immigrants have been apprehended at the US-Mexico border since President Biden took office in January – each month, a higher number than the last.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday used the statistic to castigate Democrats who left the state for hampering efforts to pass new voting restrictions.
“Democrats need to come back to Austin to make sure law enforcement has the funding they need to meet this record-breaking challenge,” he said.
