A law enforcement officer was killed and three others were injured during a standoff with a barricaded individual about 30 miles west of Lubbock, Texas, police said.
The Lubbock SWAT team responded to the scene at around 2.15 p.m. following reports of gunfire.
Sgt. Josh Bartlett, the SWAT team commander, was gunned down shortly after arriving and transported to Covenant Medical Center in Levelland, where he was pronounced deceased.
Three other police officers were injured and taken to a hospital in Lubbock for treatment. Two of them are in critical condition, according to the Texas Association of Justices of the Peace and Police Officers.

Gunshots were heard at the scene around 3:00 p.m. and then again around 6:00 p.m., KCBD reported.
“Shots are being fired in all directions,” someone at the scene told KCBD.
Agents from several local and federal agencies were still at a standstill with the barricaded individual at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Authorities have urged the public to stay away from the Levelland area, saying “driving aimlessly out of curiosity hinders police movement”.
