Alina Valenzuela’s family said they were in disbelief because she was an active, healthy young woman with no underlying health issues.
“She’s just like that, she’s so full of life. She’s loud. She’s funny. She’s brave,” her aunt Miriam Trevino said.

But the seventh grader is unconscious and intubated at Texas Children’s Hospital after being transported from San Antonio to Houston on January 15.
Trevino said his niece went into cardiac arrest after initially complaining of chest pain. She said doctors have now diagnosed the seventh year with myocarditis, which is inflammation of the heart, and doctors said it was caused by the coronavirus.
“His heart isn’t working at all on its own right now,” Trevino said. “They told us they are linking everything to COVID-19.”

Trevino said his niece’s declining health came quickly and just days after playing a basketball game for his school.
The teenager is the captain of her volleyball team, has no underlying health issues, and has never shown classic symptoms of COVID-19, but has tested positive in hospital.
“It’s hard for us to figure out and figure out what’s going on because she’s so energetic and athletic and has never been a sick child,” Trevino said.
Her family told ABC13 the teenager has had two heart surgeries in the past few days. The first surgery was to install a small heart pump, then a relay.
“This [COVID-19] is real and it is changing, “her family said in a message to others.” The symptoms are changing and we need to be aware and watch out for anything unusual.
Her family have said that this bright young woman is a fighter and now they are praying that she will come out of it.
There is a GoFundMe account set up to help the family with medical and travel expenses.
