Emily Bauer had been working at Red Hook Seafood and Bar in San Antonio for two weeks before receiving the huge tip from an unidentified male customer on Sunday.

The waiter, who is a mother of two, told KVUE on Tuesday that she was blown away when she picked up the check. In addition to the tip, the bill also included a sweet message wishing Bauer a Merry Christmas.

“I just opened it and started to cry. I was like, “Oh my God! My children! I’m going to spend it all on my children.”

“ I never had a Christmas where I could enjoy splurging with them, ” she said of her two young sons.

However, Bauer’s joy was short-lived when she couldn’t make it home with the cash bonus in her pocket.

Bauer told KVUE that restaurant management told her she was unable to process tips over $ 500.

She alleged that other waiters were backing her and asked management to process the tip amount into four separate payments so that she could receive the $ 2,000. They would have refused.

“Everyone I spoke to said, ‘I’ve never heard of it before. “If it’s left with you and signed by that person, then you should be able to get it,” Bauer told the news network.

However, the restaurant management came up with a different version of the events.

The message continued: ‘The gentleman called after he left that evening to ask if Emily would be able to receive his tip, management told him the tip would NOT be processed and if he could come and pay her in cash or by check. he said “ok” to her then hung up quickly.

The owner went on to say the restaurant had been inundated with abuse and the incorrect story had been detrimental to business.

He then posted a photo showing that the only payment processed was the amount of $ 69.01, which was the cost of the customer’s meal.

Speaking to DailyMail.com on Wednesday night, an employee said he had had “zero customers” all day because of the bad publicity.
