  • The Thai authorities are imposing a new security perimeter at Phuket Airport, which partly includes a famous beach.
  • Taking pictures in this popular place will now be illegal, according to the local press, with the maximum penalty of death.

Beaches close to airport runways are a dream come true for both aircraft enthusiasts and Instagram elites. But in Thailand, a photo spot has become too popular, according to local authorities.

Mai Khao Beach, near Phuket International Airport, will impose a 9km "safe zone", the Bangkok Post announced.

"People and tourists will not be allowed to enter this area to take pictures," said Wichit Kaeothaithiam, general manager of the airport, to the newspaper. "The maximum punishment is the death penalty."

The airport runway 09 is located less than 300 meters from the beach, making it a great place to take pictures reminiscent of the famous Maho Beach on the Caribbean island of Sint Maarten.

"If we want to maintain tourism revenues in the region, it is important to ensure the safety of aircraft as well as visitors to the beach," Kaeothaithiam continued, quoted by Phuket News.

"People will be able to take pictures of the beach further away from the track so they can enjoy the beach without compromising safety."
