With E3 in what appears to be a slow spiral of death, Gamescom will become the tent's new summer event. If it will happen? I am quite skeptical, but that means a new showcase for trailers, closing the slow summer months with flying colors.
In 2019, Geoff Keighley organized the first Gamescom Opening Night, a kind of show associated with his annual Game Awards in December. They even managed to take the trailers between two delicate price presentations, if you can convince yourself.
Gears 5
At E3 2019, Microsoft chose to focus on Gears 5Multiplayer modes – and just multiplayer. It was a strange choice, but Gamescom finally took a look at the campaign presented by Nine Inch Nails, the first in its history.
Comanche
THQ Nordic likes to resurrect old games, huh? Our first announcement of Gamescom Opening Night took place Comanche, the restart of the series of helicopter fights that has not been recorded since 2001. Comanche 4.
"Comanche is a modern team-based online multiplayer helicopter shooter that will take place in the near future," says the game's website.
Need speed: heat
EA vowed that there would be a Need of speed in 2019, but did not bring one to E3. Gamescom has made its debut in the gameplay. Need speed: heat, which seems to revolve around a player-controlled day / night cycle, police chases and customization of the car. I am … not sold. I think Forza Horizon could use some competition, and in theory, this should be Need of speedbut the last ones have been very mediocre and Heat has not shown me anything yet to change my mind. Fingers crossed, though.
Kerbal Space Program 2
I do not know what you do with a Kerbal Space Program following to improve the original. Maybe make the interface a bit less impenetrable? However, I am ready to come, especially if it proves as ambitious as this first trailer. Building advanced bases on other planets, more exploration, all this seems to be a very cool addition to what is already one of the best simulations ever made.
Little nightmares 2
Little nightmares is probably my favorite Limbo Clones, enveloping the same puzzle light, run-to-the-right mechanics in a surreal world that has reminded me a lot of the Ghibli movie Live far. I did not expect a suite, but I am happy to see one anyway.
Predators Hunting Land
the Friday 13 The crew lost the license about a year after the release of this game. Now they are back with Predator: hunting grounds, a similar asymmetrical multiplayer game but … using the Predator Licence. Let's hope the story does not repeat itself.
Monster Hunter: World – Iceborne
Monster Hunter World technically expands next month, the cold Icebornebut you would not know if you are a PC player. Capcom continues to follow the phased exit cycle, so it will not land on PC until the end of the year, or maybe later. You can however admire it from afar, thanks to this trailer.
The cycle
Yager's pseudo-space combat game Dreadnought came and went without much splash. Now, it seems like they are going back to what they do best, namely the shooters. It is presented as "PvEvP", a competitive multiplayer mix with cooperative quests, or … something. I did not really understand the content of this trailer, but now it's on Epic Games Store with alpha status.
Humanity
Amplitude has proved to be one of the most powerful Civilization competition of the last decade, with Infinite space and Endless legend to reverse the 4X genre creatively. Now they are aiming directly at Civilization however, with Humanity trace the same path from the beginning of the story to space and beyond as Sid Meier's historical series. I'm curious to see if Amplitude can finally come outCivilization the truth Civilization 6.
Everspace 2
I have never played Everspace but it sounds like an interesting loop, a mix of FTLThe node-based map with real 3D space combat. Maybe I'll finally be able to check the rest, Everspace 2when he releases in …2021? This is our first confirmed announcement for 2021.
FIFA 20
I am told that Europeans really like football. Maybe they really like people who love breakdancing with soccer balls? This is the implication of this announcement of Volta Football, I think. The animation is really impressive, I'll give it to them.
Disintegration
Disintegration is a new shooting game from Marcus Lehto, one of the creators of Haloand … it looks like it. A lot. I literally thought it was a destiny trailer at first, the resemblance is that strange. The guy even rides a Sparrow-not-a-Sparrow.
Gylt
Gylt is an exclusive Stadia. So it's strange that it appears in the presentation of Gamescom Opening Night and no, you know, two hours earlier in Google's own presentation for Stadia. I'm curious about this, if only because it comes from Tequila Works, which comes in Rhyme, Invisible hours, and The brutal sexy is on a run of hell right now.
Destiny 2: Guarding shadows
Then it went to the current Destiny 2 trailer. Not much to say about Shadow guardespecially in light of a trailer of Google's presentation this morning. It's a lot of things to do about an extension that will be released in just a few weeks. Compatibility between cross-backups, however, arrives next week. If you want to switch from the console to the PC? You can finally.
Erica: an interactive thriller
A big budget JVM game? On a stage at Gamescom? That's certainly what it looks like. This is the first time Erica: an interactive thriller has appeared since the Paris Games Week 2017, and it is one of these revelations "It's now!".
Royal Port 4
It's almost a decade since last Port Royal, the series of slash-trade on builders of cities with colonial theme. I do not know if a new iteration is as appealing in the light of Anno 1800 releasing this year but Royal Port 4 One of the most creative trailers in today's presentation is centered on a barrel of rum loaded onto a ship, then thrown into the ocean and finally turned into a material for a fledgling colony. Concept quite neat.
Iron harvest
Iron harvest is an upcoming real-time strategy game that takes place in a 1920's story, with mechs. That's about all you need to know, I think. It's like A company of heroesbut more strange. I particularly like the fake vintage images at the beginning of this trailer, which really prepares the scene.
Grounding of death
Grounding of death is expected for November. In a few months we will know what the hell Grounding of death is in fact. But for the moment? Another impenetrable sequence dump, with scary baby footprints, invisible babies, babies as equipment, all kinds of babies. Tie yourself up for 20 minutes of nonsense or just watch the movie Geoff Keighley has made for Hideo Kojima. It is somehow even wilder than Grounding of death.
