The 20 scariest movies ever made, according to science

If you’re a horror movie buff, you’ve probably experienced the disappointment of finishing a horror movie without being scared at all. The best really get your heart racing – and thanks to BroadbandChoices’ “Science of Scare” study, we know exactly which ones are (and even how fast your heart can race just watching them).

As Bloody Disgusting reports, researchers first compiled a list of 30 must-see horror movies based on Reddit’s recommendations, critics’ picks, and last year’s “Science of Scare” list. . They then asked 250 participants to watch all 30 movies while connected to heart rate monitors, so they could gauge how thrilling each program was.

The winner was Host, a 2020 UK film shot entirely on Zoom and released on Shudder. It doesn’t even last an hour, but you can expect to be scared from start to finish: The average heart rate of viewers throughout the movie was 88 beats per minute, a good 24 beats above average. at rest.

Sinister (2012), the supernatural horror film starring Ethan Hawke known for his frightening jumps, came in second place with an average heart rate of 86 beats per minute (which was good enough to place him in first place l ‘last year).
