The 49ers’ unofficial depth chart released ahead of the preseason opening

[ad_1]

The 49ers released their first unofficial depth chart of the preseason on Tuesday. Perhaps the most notable part of this depth chart is that the coaching staff don’t have the hand to put it together. The club’s public relations team is responsible for its construction and distribution.

While the results aren’t entirely inaccurate, they also don’t match what the coaching staff noted in the drafts of the depth chart they put together.

We’ve reviewed what’s recently published and drawn some general conclusions meant to be taken with a significant serving of salt and perhaps your favorite adult drink.

Jimmy garoppolo
Trey Lance
Nate Sudfeld / Josh Rosen

Conclusion: It seems to be the right order with Rosen slightly behind Sudfeld at the moment.

Rahim mostert
Trey’s sermon
Wayne Gallman / JaMycal Hasty

Elie Mitchell

Conclusion: It would be a bit of a surprise if Hasty clubbed Mitchell, but not a shock.

Kyle juszczyk
Josh hokit

Conclusion: Nothing really significant here. The only question is whether Hokit can earn a spot on the roster, even though Juszczyk is not available.

Brandon Aiyuk / Deebo Samuel
Mohamed Sanu / Richie James
Jalen Hurd / Trent Sherfield
Jauan Jennings / Travis Benjamin
Cracraft / Nsimba Webster River
Kevin White /Austin Watkins Jr.

Conclusion: Who the hell knows with this group. Sherfield is probably higher on the actual depth map and James is probably lower.

George kittle
Ross Dwelley
Charlie Woerner / MyCole Pruitt
Jordan Matthews / Joshua Perkins

Conclusion: If the 49ers maintain a tight fourth end, it will be fascinating to see which of Pruitt, Matthews and Perkins emerge as the Kittle-Dwelley-Woerner trio all seem pretty firm in their position.

Trent williams
Jaylon moore

Conclusion: Moore would end up making the club a swing tackle would be kind of a fun story after being invited inside after being drafted.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Laken Tomlinson
Colton McKivitz

Conclusion: No surprises here. McKivitz is also in the mix to start right.

Alex mack
Jake brendel
Dakoda shepley

Conclusion: In reality, Daniel Brunskill is more likely to be the No.2 center.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Daniel Brunskill
Aaron Banks
Senio Kelemete

Conclusion: Banks making their way into this starting role by Week 1 will be one of the big things to watch out for as the preseason progresses.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Mike McGlinchey
Tom compton
Corbin Kaufusi
Alfredo Gutierrez

Conclusion: The 49ers are in trouble if Compton ends up playing a straight tackle. He is also in the mix at the right guard.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Arik Armstead
Dee Ford
Jordan willis
Alex Barrett / Davin Bellamy

Conclusion: Nothing crazy here. Armstead is the starter in core packages. Ford will come for the subassemblies.

Javon kinlaw
Kentavius Street
Maurice hurst
Darrion daniels

Conclusion: The 49ers have a ton of interchangeable parts inside. Nothing notable about this band other than Street being listed as # 2 DT. It would be nice for the 49ers if he made a big leap forward this year.

DJ Jones
Kevin givens
Zach kerr
Shilique Calhoun

Conclusion: Jones, Givens and Kerr could be a great indoor rotation for the 49ers this year.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Nick bosa
Samson Ebukam
Key to the Ardennes
Eddie Yarbrough

Conclusion: The 49ers were in dire need of DE’s help for the offseason. If both Ebukam and Key are successful, it will be one of the deepest positions in San Francisco.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Azeez Al Shaair
Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles
James Burgess Jr.

Conclusion: Flannigan-Fowles has had a long way to go to a place on the roster after signing as an undrafted free agent safety three seasons ago. He is now in line for the backup SAM role at the start of the year.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Fred warner
Jonas griffith
Justin hilliard

Conclusion: It’s hard to see Griffith or Hilliard clubbing in early August. Warner’s backup is likely Dre Greenlaw, and the VA backup settles down to this vacant starting point.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Dr Greenlaw
Marcell harris
Elie Sullivan

Conclusion: Harris began to transition to linebacker at the end of last season. Now he has a very real chance of landing a spot on the roster, especially if he’s in line for the WILL backup job.

Emmanuel Mosley
Ambry Thomas
Dédomodore Lenoir
Alexandre myres

Conclusion: This depth behind Moseley is fragile no matter which order it is in.

(AP Photo / Josie Lepe)

Jason verrett
Dontae Johnson

Ken webster
BW Webb

Conclusion: As above.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

K’Waun Williams

Conclusion: Lenoir will likely be the # 2 nickel corner if Williams isn’t available, but it’s still pending. Safety Jimmie Ward can also descend into the slot.

(AP Photo / Jeff Chiu)

Jimmie ward
Jared mayden
Kai Nacua

Conclusion: The depth here is extremely inexperienced after Tarvarius Moore’s injury. Chances are, one of the solid safeties will slip.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Tavon Wilson
The story of Hufanga
Tony jefferson

Conclusion: Jaquiski Tartt’s toe injury puts a big hole in the safe depth of the 49ers. Hufanga could reasonably see the defensive playing time.

(AP Photo / Jeff Chiu)

Long snapper: Taybor pepper
Bettor: Mitch Wishnowsky
Kicker: Robbie Gould

Conclusion: No backup at any of these three locations.

(AP Photo / Ross D. Franklin)

Brandon Aïyuk
Richie James Jr.

Cracraft River
Travis Benjamin

Conclusion: Aiyuk may be too valuable to the 49ers’ offense to be the full-time return man, but they could certainly use a jerk at this position.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Richie James Jr.
Elie Mitchell
Kevin Blanc
Nsimba webster

Conclusion: If Webster is actually last on the kick return depth chart, he has virtually no way down the list.
