Butte County, California – A second human infection with West Nile virus in Butte County has been confirmed. The infected person is an adult suffering from an illness resembling a fever.
As of August 23, 2019, 45 human infections with West Nile virus have been reported in 11 counties in California.
The activity of West Nile virus is now prevalent in Butte County. The Butte County Public Health Department and Butte County Mosquito and Vectors Control District are urging residents to protect themselves from West Nile Virus by reducing mosquitoes on their property and preventing mosquito bites.
Butte Mosquito County and the Vector Control District confirmed that 31 mosquito groups and 12 sentinel chickens tested positive for West Nile Virus.
The district urges residents to drain all unnecessary stagnant water and report any suspected mosquito breeding sites.
