Amazon Studios has released a new trailer for the next true story adventure movie The aeronauts. The story follows the exploits of 1862 of the daring balloon pilot Amelia Wren (Felicity Jones) and the pioneering meteorologist James Glaisher (Eddie Redmayne), who undertook a record balloon trip to advance human knowledge. But their trip did not happen without many close calls and physical challenges.
The aeronauts was partially shot in IMAX by the director and co-writer Tom Harper (Wild Rose), but you will not be able to see this exciting adventure on IMAX screens. The film was originally scheduled to debut in late October for an exclusive week-long engagement on IMAX screens before its global release on Nov. 1, but Amazon Studios has recently changed titles. The film was pushed back to December for a brief theatrical window. available to broadcast on Prime Video. Due to the date change, the IMAX screens are no longer available to display the movie. So we can not unfortunately see it as planned.
And it looks like a great epic adventure. The cinematography is intimate and visceral, and it seems that Harper has thrown everything he had on Redmayne and Jones to put the viewer in the place of these two scientists on a dangerous mission. I do not know how much it is on a television screen. Indeed, the very brief (and limited) new theatrical window is part of Amazon's new attempt to shorten the window of time during which its original films are on display and are on Prime. While Amazon was a Netflix cinema-centric alternative, alas, it seems like they're looking to give priority to streaming and not to theatrical movies with their upcoming movies.
Anyway, check out the new trailer and unemotional poster for The aeronauts below. The film also has stars Himesh Patel and its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next weekend. The aeronauts opens in some rooms on December 6th and will be available on Prime Video on December 20th.
