We reviewed the ASUS CX5 (the 15 inch version) and in many ways it’s a fantastic machine. The 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake Core i3 has more speed than almost anything we’ve tested, the 8GB of RAM is sufficient, and the 128GB of NVMe storage allows the user to use a lot of fast local storage. . With the white-on-black aesthetic, a 15.6-inch FHD display, a fantastic backlit keyboard, and a roomy glass trackpad, there’s a lot to like about the ASUS CX5 package.
More specifications, please
It looks like ASUS doesn’t just leave it alone good enough, though, and they offer a specification boost to the blazing-fast CX5 that puts it more in line with the recently released CX9s and CX5400s. Both of these devices come with even faster Tiger Lake Core i7 chips and, perhaps more importantly, the Updated Intel Xe integrated graphics as well.
Taking inspiration from those high-end siblings, the updated CX5 seems to arrive in a much higher finish, with an 11th gen Core i5 processor and 16GB of RAM to go along with all of the other trims we just mentioned. . For most people, I still think the original Core i3 / 8GB / 128GB version is more than enough. For those of you who want to play with Steam on Chromebooks later in the year, this new option may be of great interest.
Between the faster processor, much superior GPU, and extended RAM, this version of the CX5 will be a rock-solid gaming machine once Steam hits Chrome OS. We’re still a bit far from that reality, but all signs point to it arriving before the end of 2020. When it does, devices like this updated CX5 will be in a much better position to take advantage of the new capabilities than it does. Chrome OS will provide. for gamers.

The list of this new specification appeared on Google’s own Chromebooks page, but no date is attached. Instead, we only see a message at the top that says this Chromebook will be available in retailers soon. It could mean anything from next week to next month, so if this is the Chromebook of your dreams, I would take this news with patience. While it bodes well for ASUS to put it on the shelves before students buy a laptop to go to school, we have no indication that it will be available at that time. . We have contacted ASUS for comment and will update if / when we receive a response. Until then, we wait; knowing that this is just one of the many new, fast, quality Chromebooks on the horizon.
