The union representing American Airlines flight attendants calls for the opening of an investigation into a video that went viral during the weekend. The union said the video, which portrayed American Airlines employees in a burlesque routine, was "humiliating" towards flight attendants and crew members.

The video featured four women disguised as flight attendants who sang and danced "Big Spender" in front of a seated man representing a prominent "Executive Platinum" client. The skit featured the name and logo of American Airlines on a screen.

"This can not happen in today's environment and we will not tolerate our profession being objectified sexistically," said Lori Bassani, President of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, in a statement. "We want the facts about the involvement of society and we want answers."

American Airlines said the skit was presented at a concert organized by a client in a private residence. The airline said it did not control the content nor preview the agenda.

"What has been described in the skit has not been sanctioned by the airline and is not representative of the 27,000 professional flight attendants who care for millions of customers each year," said the airline in a statement sent to its employees Sunday night. "We spoke to the client who posted the original video and shared our concerns that the actions described in the skit he witnessed are humiliating to our flight attendants and professional crew members of the industry."

The video of the skit was posted on Twitter by Jamie Larounis, editor of the travel blog The Forward Cabin.

Larounis has since taken the video, saying that "the people in the sketch were on the AA payroll, they have a working group called Salute where they perform at shows, before showing."
