Apple Arcade may not have taken the most promising start of the keynote of Apple's iPhone 11 – the company has decided to present a demo of … Frogger in Toy Town to present the service – but Apple has regularly revealed more interesting titles for Arcade, which gives us a better idea of the level of quality that the company hopes to achieve.
The titles are an interesting mix of major gaming studios and independent developers. But it's a surprisingly deep formation that goes far beyond the mediocre debut on stage. My colleague Dieter Bohn had the opportunity to try some of the upcoming games. His comment is: "All games are good." Even that Frogger the game has more than expected. It is manufactured by Q-Games, which had previously PixelJunk Monstersand it's almost indicative of what Arcade reveals as a whole: dull at first, until you take a closer look and find that a lot is happening.
From Snowman (the studio behind Alto's Adventure), there is Where the cards fall, a meditative thinking game, and Skate City, a skateboard game that excels on a touch screen (although playing with a controller is apparently less fun).
There is Spek (from RAC7), a colorful puzzle game that also features an AR mode, which according to Dieter was "the only nice RA game" he has ever played.
It's not just about puzzle games or mobile platforms: deeper and longer games will also be available, such as Finji's turn-based post-apocalyptic survival game. By the road, which is the leap from PC to join the Arcade range. There is also the surprising Breath of naturewatching Oceanhorn 2, and Various Daylife, a brand new RPG from Square Enix, the maker of A courageous omission and Octopathus traveler.
The big budget studios also have games to come: Sega will have Sonic Racing and a new Roquette ChuChu called puzzler ChuChu Rocket Universe. There is Pac-Man Royal Party of Bandai Namco, while Capcom will have Shantae and the seven mermaids and Shinsekai: In the depths. Devolver Digital will also have some titles: Take out the gungeon (a fallout of the popular rogue type shooter Enter the gungeon) and Cricket through the ages.
From Annapurna, there is the "playable video clip" Sayonara Wild Hearts, which Apple showed on stage at its event, as well as the most mysterious adventure game The pathless which has been one of Apple's most prominent games in Arcade Marketing. The pathless is the second game from Giant Squid studio, which has praised the critics Abzu and is led by Matt Nava, artistic director of Journey.
There are also some surprises, like the highly anticipated Escher-esque Garden collector, which will eventually be released on Apple Arcade (as well as on Epic Game Store), although still no official release date attached.
A video posted by Apple after the event showed even more games, including Hot wash; Jenny LeClue – Detectivu, a narrative police game; and multiplayer Lego brawls, which offers a unique Apple operating mode that allows players to connect to a local multiplayer mode on their own devices and uses an Apple TV as a dashboard.
All this only scratches the surface, too. Apple promises "more than 100 new games coming out this fall," which means that if none of the above titles look attractive, there is a good chance the game deserves to be played. Although it is unlikely that all If you already pay the $ 5 for Apple Arcade anyway, Apple hopes to try at least some of these games once you're on board. That said, Apple has not announced the composition of its lineup at launch, nor the pace of adding new titles. Stay tuned for more details as we approach the launch of September 19th.
