It's no secret that the HomePod software updates have been a little slow, which is all the more alarming as the device has barely been tackled in the Apple diary Event.
Well, even if the pre-launch promises are still unresolved, by the fall, Apple announces that its smart speaker will acquire new features, including multi-user support, radio Live and a relaxing "ambient sounds" mode, according to an updated product page on the company's website. Some of these features were detailed at the June Apple Services Event.
Multi-user support "will come this fall" after the release of iOS13. This is one of the most glaring missing features of the device yet. Alexa and Google Home devices grew faster.
The HomePod product page details that multi-user voice recognition will allow the device to recognize up to six individual voices. This feature will allow users to ask the device to play music based on their interests while asking them to perform commands associated with personal data such as recent messages or upcoming meetings.
Live radio features are part of the iOS13 features and will arrive at the end of the month with support for iHeartRadio, Radio.com and TuneIn. More than 100,000 radio stations will be available for users who ask Siri to post a station.
Along with the new radio stations, Apple will be adding in the fall a relaxing Ambient Sounds mode "offering the soothing sounds of ocean waves, forest birds, rain storms and more."
Apple has not proven that HomePod is fully capable of meeting consumer software update times. We'll see how that goes, but they say all these features will come in the fall.
