While the iOS 14 September release added tons of major features to the iPhone, from home screen widgets to the ability to customize app icons, there’s a hidden feature that’s still blowing away months. later in the minds of users. That shiny Apple logo on the back of your phone? It turns out that he can now do a lot more than just sit there.
A new feature called Back Tap, which allows users to access a host of functions by tapping the back of the phone two or three times, is hidden in the accessibility settings of iOS 14. There are three models of the phone. ‘iPhone 12 in our list of the best camera phones – and besides raw tech, it’s often tiny iOS tweaks like this that make Apple’s smartphones so impressive.
An Instagram Reel (above) recently went viral, explaining how to access Back Tap on any model from iPhone 8 and above. As the video shows, tons of actions can be done with Back Tap, including taking a screenshot, lighting the torch, opening Control Center, and launching one of your Siri shortcuts.
Contrary to what the video suggests, you don’t to have to tap the Apple logo – the feature uses the iPhone’s accelerometer, which can be activated by tapping anywhere on the back of the phone. But hey, the logo is in the middle of the back of your phone – if you want to touch the back, you’re probably going to press the Apple apple.
Judging by the amount of “ mind-blowing ” emojis below the video, the existence of Back Tap is still relevant to many users. “Very cool, thanks for the tip!” one user comments, while another adds: “Awesome! It’s much easier to take a screenshot!”
While users are unlikely to stumble upon it in settings, Back Tap is easy to activate and customize. All you need to do is head to Settings, Accessibility, Touch, then Back Tap. There you will find a huge list of options for double and triple tap.
Apple calls Back Tap “a simple and easy way to trigger handy tasks for those with accessibility needs,” in its full iOS 14 feature list (where it’s relegated to the “even more” section). But Back Tap could offer great convenience to all users. Creatives that need to take a quick screenshot or use a shortcut to convert an image type, for example, can now do so with a single double or triple tap.
We can’t help but wonder why Apple didn’t choose to make Back Tap one of the core features of iOS 14. Indeed, if Twitter is something to do, people are just finding out. , more than four months after its release.
