Avengers: End of the game is a record film for Marvel Studios, for more than one reason. The film is a box office killing and it's one of the most commented movies in Marvel's stable of properties. The film directed by the Russo brothers has also introduced several intrigues in the Marvel film universe, including the journey back in time.
The journey through time allowed the film to introduce two versions of Thanos (Josh Brolin) in the same film. The "old" Thanos, from the current chronology, and a younger Thanos, having progressed in time from 2014 to 2023. For the two versions of the character to be separated during the development of the film, the creation team nicknamed the youngest version of two as "Thanos warrior."
"We call him the warrior Thanos, the character's version before putting down his armor and becoming enlightened and searching for the stones," Anthony Russo told Empire in a recent interview. "He is more angry, it may be his fault in the film, he is a little bit more precocious and confident, not quite so enlightened."
Weta Digital, a New Zealand company specializing in special effects, was responsible for writing the most recent version of Thanos. Last month, we talked to Weta's Matt Aitken about the differences between the two versions.
"He's kind of like a slightly different character," says Aitken about the young Thanos in Endgame. "But we used the same basic resources for both films. We obviously spent a lot of time on Infinity War for Thanos to wake up. But then the Thanos we see in Endgame is a younger Thanos. He arrived in 2014, so he is … technically I think he's about four years younger than the Thanos of Infinity War. He is more agile. He is a little at the top of his physical prowess. And he is also dressed differently. He wears armor. He is in battle mode. "
"We did the footage on Titan for War of Infinity where he was somehow dressed much more casual, and he is more philosophical in those. So we had the job to do for him to straighten the armor. We wanted to reflect his youth and his power, mainly through animation. So, it 's not so much a change that we bring to the core asset, but it' sa change that we bring to the approach used to animate it.
