Katie Thurston’s reign as “The Bachelorette” has come to an end. During Monday’s three-hour final, Katie left engaged to Blake Moynes.
But the road to engagement has not been easy. Viewers last saw the Season 17 frontman locked in the bathroom right after his split from former frontman Greg Grippo. The two exchanged a passionate (and controversial) split in the penultimate episode, which left him with two finalists: now-fiancé Blake and Justin Glaze.
The final episode swung back and forth between current reactions and final production events in New Mexico. After introductions and a season recap by hosts Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams, viewers found Katie in tears in New Mexico. The reading was followed by her reflection today, where she reacted to her exchange with Greg. She said that when she tried to identify what she did to trigger her explosion; she struggled with Greg’s jarring exit and questioned his self-esteem. But upon reflection, she felt disturbed by the conversation.
Despite her grief, Katie vowed to continue her journey to find someone who will “fight” for her “to the very end.” Blake and Justin were notified of Greg’s release via Kaitlyn and Tayshia, and the two were eager to begin fantastic sequels week.
The first nightly date went to Blake. They spent the afternoon playing with an evening of spray paint before chatting in a hot tub. During their conversation, Katie admitted to wanting to “quit” the show after the back-to-back exits of Greg and Michael Allio. The revelation shook him, and he focused on his attachment to his exes and worried that she was not ready for an engagement.

Despite this, Blake shared his feelings with Katie over dinner. He cited specific anecdotes from their dates in their hometown and pointed out his favorite qualities about him. He emphasized how much he considered the word “love” before confessing his own to her. Katie had shared several times that she was only going to say “I love you” to one man, but she ended up telling Blake before the night was out. “I love you so much,” she told him before they retired to their fantastic suites.
Katie debriefed Kaitlyn after the night out and opened up about her relationship with Blake. Joy was juxtaposed with the realization that Justin was still in the competition, and she realized that she was apparently less excited about him. She told him so the next day, breaking up with him when he arrived for their date in the fantasy suite. The episode followed his exit with his current reaction, including speaking to Kate for the first time since leaving the set. He admitted that it was hard not to think he was there by “default” after the kills, and he asked if Katie had given him a chance. Katie did her best to reassure him and asserted their old connection.

After Justin was out of sight, Katie and Blake took several consecutive stages. The time-lapse episode featured Blake meeting Katie’s mother and aunt (who offered tough love), their last date, and a Neil Lane ring-picking session. The rushed timeline rocked Blake, who expressed nerves before the proposal. Despite this, he ended up kneeling.
Their happiness was sharply contrasted by the animosity on the current Los Angeles scene. Greg returned to see Katie and was asked by her and the hosts about his decision to leave the show prematurely. He said he hoped their final conversation put them on the same page, and he blamed Katie’s inability to tell him that she loved him on her decision to leave.
Since the end of the show, rumors have circulated around Greg’s character, especially about a previous stint in acting school. Katie also heard he was dishonest when portraying himself during filming and said he was an “arrogant guy from Jersey” as opposed to the sweet man she came to know. Her newfound insight led her to accuse her of being performative and of using the show as a platform. When reassessing their breakup, she cited their momentary argument as her excuse and a reason to escape. The charges continued to fly and she said he was never ready or prepared for an engagement.

She used their last fight as evidence and accused him of igniting it with gas and speaking to her with contempt. Despite Greg’s initial claim of “no regrets,” he apologized for the way he communicated in the last fight before attempting to justify his behavior. The conversation ignited, and the two eventually parted ways on less than friendly terms.

That trough was followed by a peak: Blake joined Katie on stage for their first public appearance as an engaged couple. Katie and Blake took turns reminiscing about their romance before ending the season with an impromptu dance to their song “Memorize You”.
