The bachelorette‘s Katie thurston reduced his herd by average looking men to a slim top four, all of whom will take part in the highly anticipated episode of Hometowns. On Monday night, Katie sent home Andrew, one of the last men of color and the only one to have attempted a honest conversation with her about race and potentially having interracial children. It was surprising considering Andrew was in the last two with Justin, a man who is largely forgettable because his time with Katie has been incredibly insignificant, but he painted her roses so I guess he has to. stay.

While I was convinced Katie would pick Andrew in the end, my husband explained to me that Andrew got too real with Katie when he asked her about her career and if she would want him to give it up. ‘they ended up together. Andrew is a soccer player in Vienna (meaning he wasn’t good enough to make the NFL or CFL) and Katie lives in Seattle and she again chose not to answer a serious question with any level of seriousness, despite spending the whole season declaring that she is there to be “real” and to find a husband. Instead of thinking about what her life might be like as a WAG and giving Andrew an honest answer, she brushed off the question and told him to pursue his dream. Then she dumped him.

But the real concern with Katie’s interaction with Andrew isn’t how it affected her per se., because he is young, sexy, and will certainly be found on TV. Instead of, his inability to answer a fundamental question about living conditions is of concern as it could harm one of the remaining men, Michael A.

Michel A., aka Dead Wife Guy, has grown on top of me the past few weeks and while I don’t think he should waste any more of his time with Katie, I have come to take care of him as a human being, something that rarely happens with Single competitors. Michael A. lost his wife to cancer two years ago, has a young son waiting at home, and as viewers found out on Monday night, still takes care of her in-laws. This man has a whole life; he’s not just a one-dimensional guy who had a few weeks to spare trying to date a girl on national television.

Katie is well aware of Michael A.James’s son, and told him over and over that every time she gave him a rose, she extended that rose to James because he was “part of the package.” When Michael A. spoke to Katie about his nerves for the future, she watered down step-parenting by saying, “I can see myself getting the juice boxes,” which Michael A. seemed to like at the moment. BBut instead of pushing that conversation forward, she steered it to her usual platform of broad statements on how to make things work.

Similar to her non-conversations with Andrew, it feels like Katie is sweeping away the reality of these men’s lives. PMaybe she’s doing it because she doesn’t see a future with these two men in particular, but if she does, then why keep keeping Michael A. around? Maybe she doesn’t want to be the girl who dumped the Dead Wife Guy, but dumping him after you meet his family and after his wife’s ghost haunts you is worse than if she cut him. before Hometowns. May this man return home with his son and find a nice single mother to date who understands what it’s like to be responsible for a human being as a whole.
