The bachelorette candidate Justin Glaze apologizes for his previous offensive tweets that have recently circulated online.
The tweets, which were written between 2009 and 2011 when Glaze, 27, was a teenager, resurfaced on Reddit over the weekend. In the articles, Glaze uses homophobic slurs and insulting comments about black women while promoting colorism.
On Monday, Glaze addressed the messages during an appearance on the Happy Hour Bachelor podcast with Becca Kufrin and guest co-host Tayshia Adams.
“As I reflect on how much I’ve just been through with this whole trip, a lot of times people ask me what I took away from it,” he begins in an exclusive PEOPLE preview of the podcast that airs in full. late Monday evening. “And one of the biggest takeaways for me was just my personal growth, and one of those things is being able to hold myself accountable, which I haven’t been able to do historically. “No matter how long this lasted, those words shouldn’t have come out of my mouth,” he said. “I’m obviously in a very different place now, over a decade later at age 27 and I can watch it come back and be ashamed of the words I’ve used … I know I’ve matured, evolved and grown as a person, I’m a totally different version of Justin than I was. “
“I know these words will never get out of my mouth, because I know the weight they carry, regardless of the context in which they are used. I understand how much the groups I have offended need. allies and support. “

Glaze tells Kufrin and Adams that the criticism he has received is a “wake-up call to let me know that I must continue to do this work and continue with these groups that need alliance and support.”
He concludes: “Unfortunately, [at that time], my underdeveloped brain wasn’t thinking, “How can these words hurt people later in life if they ever had to resurface?” I’m not looking for any excuse. Glaze is currently in contention for Katie Thurston’s Heart in Season 17 of The bachelorette. So far, Thurston has not publicly acknowledged Glaze’s past tweets.
